It is the intent of this internet site to enable “people of faith” to become more active in lobbying and advocating their beliefs with elected officials, the media, and advertisers. As evidenced from the rapid secularization and degradation of society, just voting periodically for elected officials is not enough! Instead, “people of faith” must be vigilant and actively lobby elected officials, the media, and advertisers to influence their actions on an ongoing basis.
Even the Catholic Church appears to have come to this realization. In late 2007 the Catholic Bishops started a Faithful Citizenship initiative (www.faithfulcitizenship.org) as a call to political responsibility. The Bishops state that “In the Catholic Tradition, responsible citizenship is a virtue, and participation in political life is a moral obligation”. Pope Benedict XVI calls political activity, “social charity”.
According to a 2004 Pew survey, 64% of Internet using Americans – 82 million people – use the internet for religious purposes. Much of the use is focused on accessing religious news and looking for places of worship. “People of faith” are not, though, taking advantage of the internet’s two-way capability where constituents can make their voices heard instantaneously, anytime, and from anywhere. I am sure many have read or heard of political issues, such as the recent comprehensive immigration bill, which was impacted by constituents making their voices heard through the internet and other means of communications. Why should “people of faith” not be heard in a similar fashion? We should sound off about issues relating to abortion, euthanasia, fetal stem cell research, human cloning, secularization of society, “pornification” of society, demise of the traditional family, and homosexual “marriage”.
